Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is investing in heightened security, according to recent permits flagged by BuildZoom. The plans, which are part of a $9 billion, multi-year renovation plan, call for airport-wide upgrades to CCTV and data networks. The increased security project is valued at $7.5 million.
Along with the surveillance improvements, facilities and passenger comfort are getting some attention. The airport is renovating some of its “vertical transportation” equipment (that is, elevators) for $6.5 million, and the United Club lounge will get $1.1 million in enhancements.
2015 is going to be a productive year for airport expansion. A new 128,000 sf cargo facility for Concourse C is going to be complete by November 2015. 52,000 sf of space in the Concourse C passenger terminals will be renovated by spring 2015 (rendered above). The renovations are designed to accommodate the airport’s increased importance in the region as well as increased demand for cargo and passenger capacity.
[threecol_two]The new master plan for Hartsfield-Jackson’s multi-billion dollar upgrade was released in Fall 2014 and calls for new cargo facilities, a sixth runway, and three new international terminals. Hartsfield-Jackson’s official documentation for the master plan, which is projected to run through 2030, shows the parking garage upgrade will begin in 2017 and cargo facility expansion to begin in 2018. The new runway, which is justified by the increased delays the airport suffers during bad weather, will be installed sometime after 2021.[/threecol_two]
